PANTONE refer to this years chosen colours PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating as “practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, the union of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is one of strength and positivity. It is a story of colour that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.”

Why is Pantone Colour of the Year 2021 different?

2021 marks only the second time Pantone has introduced two colours in their annual announcement. The union of colours creates a message of strength, energy and hope, and are designed to create the sensation of a fresh sunrise on rocky ground.

How can the Pantone colour of the year be used to advise interior designers?

According to the company, these colours are not meant to be independent, and they must be presented together. This versatile colour palette that can be easily played with to create creative and elaborate design schemes. Being a soft colour, Ultimate Grey can be used as a perfect base colour. While Illuminating can be used to accentuate through elements such as cushions, stools, individual armchairs or vases, this will add a modern and fresh touch to any space.

How can the Pantone of the year influence events?

After a challenging year, companies and people see the light at the end of the tunnel. We are very optimistic that by the end of this year, we will return to normal. People are looking for stability and happiness, and we think the colours reflect that very well.

We also hope that this combination of contrasts will help bring back a more colour trend in events, as in the past few years, priority has been given to shy and more neutral colours.

It remains to be seen if clients will want to choose these colours for their events or not, as it still has to fit in with their style and corporate colours. However, there is no doubt that these are a good representation of motivation and positivity for 2021.

How is FullCircle looking to implement the Pantone Colour of the Year 2021?

At FullCircle, we work with a variety of furniture and materials that have been chosen to create unique and stylish spaces. When working with our clients to develop creative concepts, we always bear in mind current trends. Therefore we have been looking at how we can incorporate these colours through branding, furniture, materials and set design and how we can how these elements can help transform an event.

What inspires the use of colour in event design?

We know how much of an impact colour has in our everyday lives – it helps determine how to interpret or perceive different situations. So when it comes to an event, we know we have a short amount of time to create an impression and therefore, how we use colours will contribute to the impact of the event success.

When organising an event, we have to coordinate the lighting, sound, furniture and theming to achieve perfect harmony. The main element that ties all these together is colour. The most important thing for the team to consider is the colour scheme. Does it suit the idea? Does it sit in line with the clients brand or product? What is the vision for the overall look and feel? What do these colours represent? The colour is the protagonist of an event.
