Strong colours have been an important trend in the last few years and will continue to be this year. Pantone have announced the Pantone colour of the year 2020 as Classic Blue, according to their Vice President Laurie Pressman, “is a colour that anticipates what’s going to happen next” and represents the global change in 2020. We speak to our Head of Design, Yana Hristova on the importance of Pantone colours in event design.

Classic Blue is the Pantone Colour of the Year 2020

Why is Pantone Colour of the Year 2020 especially different?

What’s really interesting is that Pantone has created a multi-sensory Classic Blue experience, which isn’t just about vision but also smell, touch, flavour and hearing, and the associations we have with the tone. This provides plenty of scope for event managers and designers to come up with creative ways to implement this is in upcoming events.

Classic Blue used in Entertainment

How can Pantone colours be used to advise interior designers?

I think minimalism is still an unveiling trend which elevates boldness, shape and colour as its primary motives. Colour plays a big role in this and Pantone colours can be used to effectively advise interior design to form positive and negative spaces, separate areas, guide the vision and support brand identities.

Use Pantone Colour of the Year 2020, Classic Blue in your event furniture

How can both designers and event managers incorporate ‘Classic Blue’?

If you are considering the use of the Pantone Colour of the Year in your upcoming event in 2020, a great way to incorporate it is by paying attention to the smaller details and micro interactions which are widely used within event design. This could cover anything from signage, event collateral and pre-event engagement to furniture, door colours, installations and staging. You can get further inspiration across design, production and entertainment from our carefully curated Pinterest board.

How are FULLCIRCLE looking to implement the Pantone Colour of the Year 2020?

We are excited to work with a wide variety of materials and furniture pieces to bring a multitude of visions to life. We absolutely love bespoke design and installations, we will work with you to create unique solutions for your event,  and find the right look and feel to elevate your chosen space.

Last year, we had great success using the Pantone Colour of 2019 – Living Coral at The Pillion at The Tower of London. This helped us produce a refreshing and contemporary look, allowing guests to feel a sense of warmth and happiness at the venue.

What inspires the use of colour in event design?

We look at each event as a story, narrating the attendee’s experience throughout the space. It starts with why they’re there, what they want to take from the event, what they see when they first arrive, what they touch and feel and how we can build up to the culminating moment. We then present the information we’re given in memorable and surprising ways – allowing us to play with all the senses as much as we can. As the famous saying goes, “people will forget what you say and do, but will never forget how you made them feel.”

As vision is one of our primary senses, colour plays a big role in how we perceive information. I’m excited that each year the colours get stronger and bolder, pulling us out of comfort zones and stealing our attention. Don’t be afraid to use bold colours in your events – after all, people will be drawn into spaces where they are utilised!
